- Argentinian restaurant with a view at the heart of Lisbon
Note to lovers of Argentine cuisine 🇦🇷 I invite you to stop by the restaurant "Café Buenos Aires". The place is definitely frequented by tourists - as it is located a stone's throw away from the Convento do Carmo and the Rossio Station - but food-loving Lisboets also like this place. The meat is really delicious, as are the beautiful homemade chips. The wine selection 🍷 is tempting and the desserts are are stunning. As for the setting, if the weather allows it, it is very pleasant to dine on the terrace, with a view on the Castelo de São Jorge 🏰. Reservation recommended. To enjoy a good meal, it' s this way📍: Calçada do Duque 31B, 1200-155 Lisboa
- Vegetarian cuisine: a good address in the Algarve
During a recent visit to the Vilamoura area, I had the opportunity this week to discover the Restaurant Raízes ("Roots" in English) in Quarteira. Situated just a stone's throw from the ocean, close to the Forte Novo beach, the establishment has a well exposed terrace which allows you to be sheltered from the wind ( which is not a luxury in this part of the Algarve). Ideal for a hearty lunch outdoors after a nice walk with your pet(s). On the menu, healthy and vegetarian dishes, fresh juices and good desserts served in colourful dishes. We tested and loved 👍🏽 the bowl of seasonal vegetables and its falafels, the soft sweet potatoes chips, the black beans veggie burger served in a "bolo do caco" (typical Madeira wheat bread) the spaghetti with tempeh (a product made from fermented soya beans). Note that the restaurant also offers a "Take Away" service.
- Golf: discounted equipment in the Algarve
Notice to all golfers! In the Algarve, I recommend 2 specialised shops that offer nice outfits and branded equipment with great discounts all year round. In Alcantarilha, The GOLF SHACK, a small shop on the EN125 road, is located near the famous courses of Gramacho & Pinta Vale de Milho, O'Connor & Faldo de Amendoeira and Salgados. You will find new and second-hand equipment of very good quality. The shop also offers club repair and equipment rental services. https://www.golfshack.eu/contact-us In Quarteira, 10-minute drive from the Vilamoura Marina and close to the Vila Sol, Dom Pedro and Vale do Lobo courses, the NORGOLFE shop offers a wide range of women's and men's clothing with discounts of up to 50% off. Among the brands on sale are Nike, Kjus, Greg Norman and Röhnisch. The shop is not easily identifiable, only 2 signs at the entrance to the car park indicate "Golf Shop" with the Nike logo. https://www.norgolfe.com/en/contacto/
- Consumer Rights: "Portal da Queixa"
To resolve a complaint situation following the purchase of goods or services in Portugal, the consumer can go through the Portal da Queixa (Complaint Portal). This online platform allows the consumer to submit and register in writing the problematic situation. I have recently used this portal twice to complain about : an unauthorised renewal of a contract with the telecom operator NOS to claim compensation from the household supplier WORTEN following an incomplete installation of a fridge in Lisbon. This is a very effective tool to get answers from the brands' after-sales services. Of course, writing in Portuguese is a mandatory requirement at: https://portaldaqueixa.com/ You can contact me for this specific procedure via the contact form on this website or by email: info@clairevousaide.com
- Restaurant in the Algarve: Grilled fish "à volonté"
If you're visiting the Algarve and want to eat delicious grilled fish, accompanied by their traditional salad of tomatoes, onions and succulent small potatoes, don't miss a lunch in Armação de Pêra at Zé Leiteiro. You should come early as this place is well known to the locals. It is a typical restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, just a stone's throw from the large beach of Armação de Pêra and its pretty traditional fishing boats.
- Daily News in Portugal: The French Radio
In order to always be informed about the political, economic, cultural and sports news of Portugal, I recommend the daily French bulletin of La French Radio Portugal. On the application, click on "Flash Infos Portugal" in the menu to read or listen to a summary of the day's key topics in less than 4 minutes.
- Beach in the Algarve: Praia de São Rafael
Are you looking for a really nice beach, typical of the Algarve, with beautiful sand, cliffs and shades of ochre? São Rafael beach is worth a visit. Whether it's for sunbathing, swimming or a nice walk, you won't be disappointed. Above the beach, take the wooden stairs that lead to a flat area with a breathtaking view of the Falésia cliffs in the distance. Continuing the walk you will find the tiny beach of Arrifes with its beautiful rocks.
- Food: Oysters in the Algarve
One of my guilty pleasure is oysters. After much searching, I finally found a great place in the Algarve to order from, Rui Ferreira, who takes great care to raise his oysters in the Alvor basin. The place is quiet and very typical. For more information: OstraSelect Algarve, near Alvor. Tel: +351.919.463.570
- Beauty shop: Hair Salon in the Algarve, Albufeira
For the last 4 years, for my haircut and highlights on blond and long hair, I have been loyal to Maïté, owner of the Beauty Respect Salon located in the Algarve on the Albufeira Marina. Maïté works with non-aggressive products, she is very professional and it is always a pleasure to go and be pampered by her. For more information: https://beauty-respect.com/fr/
- "Too Good to Go" : tackling food waste
The "Too Good to Go" mobile application aims to combat food waste by offering the day's unsold food at low prices to users of the platform. Users simply reserve their "surprise basket", pay online and collect the foodstuffs on the spot within the time window indicated. This initiative, of Danish origin, has allowed me to discover many new shops and products in Lisbon (restaurants, pastry shops, small shops). Good to know: recently, the application also works for the main cities of the Algarve.
